There was no stopping American Steve Holcomb as he stayed perfect this season with his fifth-straight World Cup victory with success in the two-man event in Lake Placid, while Great Britain’s contingent just missed out on top-20 finishes across the pond.
Pilot John Jackson continued his comeback from a serious Achilles injury and teamed up with Craig Pickering in one sled, while Lamin Deen and John Baines were also in action.
However despite their best efforts the two sleds were unable to finish their first runs inside the top 20 and were therefore not eligible for a second crack at the track.
Jackson and Pickering agonisingly missed out by just one place as their time of 56.76 seconds saw them finish 21st, while Deen and Baines were five places further back after coming home in 57.35.
But there was no denying who the star of the show was as Holcomb and Steven Langton stormed to victory in 1:50.62 minutes.
It was Holcomb’s fifth win from five World Cup events – three of them coming in the two-man event where he stretched his unbeaten run to seven races.
Completing the podium in Lake Placid were Switzerland’s Beat Hefti and Alex Baumann as they claimed silver, with Americans Nick Cunningham and Dallas Robinson placing third.
