TEAM GB AWARDED FIVE FIGURE SKATING QUOTA PLACES FOR SOCHI

With just 127 days to go until the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games the International Skating Union (ISU) has confirmed a further two athlete figure skating athlete quota places for Team GB.
The ISU awarded the two athlete quota places after Vancouver 2010 Olympians David King (Carlisle) and Stacey Kemp (Leyland) placed 7th in the Nebelhorn Trophy, which was the final Olympic qualification competition.
Team GB’s figure skaters will compete in ice dance, ladies singles events and pairs at the “Iceberg” Skating Palace in Sochi between 6 and 22 February 2014.
Team GB Chef de Mission Mike Hay said: “David and Stacy narrowly missed out on securing the pairs athlete quota place for Team GB earlier this year at the World Championships, so I am delighted that not only did they earn one of the four qualification spots up for grabs, but that they were also the top-placed non-qualified pair at the Nebelhorn Trophy.
“Many more of our Sochi 2014 Olympic hopefuls are now out competing and hunting down their own spots on Team GB and I wish them all the very best over the coming months.”
