Rio 2016: Day 6 Preview

11 August 2016 / 02:47

Justin Rose and Danny Willett will make history on day six of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games as golf makes its return while there are a host of guaranteed Team GB medal opportunities.

Rose and Willett will both tee off as golf appears back on the Olympic schedule for the first time in 112 years while Olympic champions Jason Kenny and Philip Hindes lead the Team GB medal charge.

Kenny, Hindes and Callum Skinner will bid for glory in the team sprint as track cycling starts at the Games with the men’s and women’s team pursuits also in qualifying action.

After day five’s schedule was cancelled due to high winds, Team GB’s rowers will be hoping to be back out on the Lagoa where four boats are in medal races.

The men’s quadruple sculls, double sculls and pair along with the women’s double sculls of Katherine Grainger and Victoria Thornley will all bid for medals.

There’s semi-final action for the women’s pair and men’s lightweight double sculls and four while David Florence will seek redemption in Deodoro in the canoe slalom C2.

Florence failed in his bid for a C1 medal but teams up with Richard Hounslow in the C2 with Fiona Pennie also hoping to be in the medal mix in the K1 after Joe Clarke’s gold.

Team GB have two swimmers in the women’s 200m breaststroke final – Molly Renshaw and Chloe Tutton – while Dan Wallace goes in a stacked 200m medley medal showdown.

Team GB’s men’s rugby sevens team will play for a medal on day six – it’s just a case of what colour with their bid set to begin against South Africa in the semi-finals in Deodoro.

Ellie Downie goes in the women’s gymnastics all around final and Jennifer McIntosh makes her second appearance in Rio in the women’s rifle three positions.

Team GB have two judokas in action for the first time at the Games as Ben Fletcher goes in the men’s 100kg and Natalie Powell goes in the women’s 78kg.

Noami Folkard is three wins away from firing for a medal in the women’s individual archery while badminton gets underway with every single Team GB player in action.

Joshua Buatsi, Pat McCormack and Josh Kelly all take to the ring in the boxing and double Olympic champion Charlotte Dujardin begins her dressage campaign as does Carl Hester.

Team GB’s women’s hockey team face Japan looking continue their fine pool form and the windsurfers return to the Marina da Gloria for the Olympic sailing regatta.

Tennis was also cancelled on day five and so day six sees Andy Murray and Johanna Konta in singles action and the latter joining Jamie Murray in beginning in the mixed doubles.
