Counter Editions will once again be working with Sir Howard Hodgkin who has been commissioned by the British Olympic Association to create the official limited edition print for Team GB for the Olympic Winter Games.
‘Ice’ is an abstract image of sweeping, spiralling brushstrokes evoking both a winter landscape and the energy of winter sports. The print will be available in a strictly limited number of 350 signed copies. ‘Ice’ is the latest commission in a long tradition of prints celebrating the Olympic Games dating back to 1912, and is part of an iconic body of work including artists like David Hockney, Andy Warhol and more recently Tracey Emin and Chris Ofili for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Sir Howard Hodgkin is one of Great Britain’s most beloved living artists. Known for his bright colours and bold forms, Hodgkin’s semi-abstract paintings and prints are often compared to the work of Henri Matisse. He represented Britain at the Venice Biennale in 1984, won the Turner Prize in 1985, and was knighted in 1992. He has had major exhibitions in museums all around the world, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Reina Sofia in Madrid, and Tate Britain in London.
‘Ice’ is published by Counter Editions, a leading London-based fine art print publisher. Counter Editions works with the world’s leading contemporary artists such as Bridget Riley and John Baldessari to create affordable limited edition artworks. The Official Limited Edition Prints for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games were published by Counter Editions. Their prints and multiples have been purchased by many international insititutions including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the British Council.
