Rob McCracken admits it would bring him great pleasure to see Andrew Selby go one better at next week’s AIBA World Boxing Championships and return from Almaty with gold.
The 24-year-old suffered heartache in the flyweight final at the last World Championships in Baku in 2011, losing by a single point to Russian Misha Aloyan.
He’ll once again head to the global gathering as the European champion, Selby becoming the first Brit ever to defend an amateur continental title in June.
And British performance director McCracken insists there would be few more popular winners than Selby, who lost in the Olympic quarter-final at London 2012, in Kazakhstan.
He said: “Andrew was edged out last time but he has moved on. He is so good he has the capability to win anything and it would be particularly pleasing to see him win the world title.”
