Where to watch the World Boxing Championships 2025

The World Boxing Championships are set to get underway in Liverpool where a host of British talent can expect the strong support of a home crowd.

The world’s best in the boxing world will head to the M&S Bank Arena to compete in a knockout format in their respective weight category.

The competition will play out on Merseyside from the 4 to 14 September, culminating in the crowning of the world’s best boxers.

What is the format of the World Boxing Championships?

The World Championships follows a simple knockout format that means once a boxer has lost a bout, they will not compete again.

A draw has been held to determine each boxer’s path to the final, with that bout deciding the gold and silver medal. Bronze medals are awarded to both boxers who lose out in the semi-finals.

Medals are awarded in each weight category. There are 10 categories in the men’s and women’s competition with the men’s starting at 50kg and increasing by 5kg increments to 90kg+, and the women’s starting at 48kg and increasing by 3kg increments to 80kg+.

Bouts are made up of three rounds that each last three minutes for both men and women, with each round separated by a one-minute break.

The winner of each round is determined by three scoring criteria: number of scoring blows, technical and tactical superiority, and competitiveness.

Ten points must be awarded by judges to the boxer who has won the round and then the losing boxer will be awarded nine points or less depending on how significant the judges feel the victory is.

Who is competing?

Paris Olympian Chantelle Reid will represent England in the light-middleweight (57kg) category, with their competition set to get underway on 5 September at 11am.

She is one of over 30 boxers at the championships who competed at the 2024 Olympics, including Team GB teammate Charley Davison (54kg), while 17 medallists from last summer are set to enter the ring.

There will also be hometown representation for Liverpool with light-middleweight (70kg) Odel Kamara and middleweight Callum Makin (75kg) both hailing from Merseyside.

GB Boxing have selected a 16-person squad, but the boxers will represent their home nations, while England have entered a full squad of 20 athletes, with Scotland travelling with a squad of 11 boxers.

They will compete among a field of more than 540 boxers from 67 federations in the first World Championships with both men and women competing together.
