Team GB's Guide to Paris 2024

So reach for those diaries, circle these dates and get ready for a huge 2024… it's Olympic year!

The countdown to the biggest sporting show on earth is underway and athletes from across the world are fine-tuning their preparations ahead of a summer to savour in the city of love.

55 athletes have so far been selected to represent Team GB in Paris and the past year has seen a string of quota places added to an already enviable collection but plenty more remain up for grabs in the time between now and the opening ceremony.

Crunch time for quota places

Action heats up in the spring, with two blockbuster urban sports qualification events taking place in Shanghai (May 16-19) and Budapest (June 20-23). More than 450 athletes are set to compete with over half the qualification spots in BMX freestyle, breaking, skateboarding and sport climbing available.

The always dramatic 'Last Chance Regattas' in sailing and rowing take place in April and May respectively with the men's rugby sevens team needing to win their crunch qualifier in Monaco in June to make sure of their place.

Individual athletes in athletics, swimming, cycling, judo and badminton can continue to earn ranking points at a variety of competitions in the lead-up to the Games.

European showdowns to prove pivotal

All Olympic sports had World Championships in 2023. In the immediate build-up to Paris, European Championships are the key focus for our athletes.

Britain’s artistic gymnasts – who have secured full teams for Paris by virtue of superb performances at landmark events in 2022 and 2023 – will fine-tune their preparations at continental showpieces for men (April 24-28) and women (May 2-5), both in Rimini.

Europeans in rowing (May 3-5), athletics (June 7-12) and aquatics (June 10-23) follow.
