This Week in Olympic Sport: May 20-May 25

Olympic bronze-medal winning canoeists Liam Heath and Jon Schofield face an immediate return to the water this week as we take a look at the next six days of action taking place.

Sprinters Heath and Schofield, who won K2 200m bronze at the London 2012, were part of the British team that opened the new World Cup season with four medals in Racice last week.

Heath won silver on his own in the K1 200m in the Czech Republic while Lani Belcher played a part in the other three medals garnered with individual bronze in the K1 1000m and K1 5000m.

She teamed up with London 2012 Olympian Rachel Cawthorn for silver in the K2 200m with that discipline to be Heath and Schofield’s priority as the second World Cup leg takes place in Szeged.

Elsewhere the Giro d’Italia continues and cycling’s Mountain Bike World Cup moves to Nove Mesto in the Czech Republic while there is sailing in the form of the Delta Lloyd Regatta in the Netherlands.

Britain continue their charge at the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships and finally, qualifying gets underway for tennis’ second Grand Slam, the French Open, with the first round proper to begin in Paris on Sunday with Andy Murray leading Britain’s charge.
