It’s an action packed seven days of Olympic sport this week with championships in hockey, modern pentathlon, rowing and equestrian, a grand tour depart in cycling and an athletics celebration: We give a flavour of what’s taking place below.
Just four days after the conclusion of the World Athletics Championships in Moscow, the circuit moves across Europe to Stockholm for the 12th Diamond league of the season where 12 global gold medal winners will be on show.
Staying in Sweden and the penultimate World Triathlon Series will take place days later in Stockholm while continuing the European theme and the world of equestrian takes centre stage with championships in dressage and jumping in Denmark.
The men’s and women’s EuroHockey Championships conclude at the weekend in Belgium while both World Championships in modern pentathlon and rowing get up and running before continuing beyond the next seven days.
Cycling’s third grand tour after the Giro d’Italia and Tour de France, the Vuelta a Espana begins on Saturday without Sir Bradley Wiggins while Bratislava plays host to the canoe slalom World Cup Final.
And finally winter remains, despite it being summer, with New Zealand continuing to host the opening World Cup of the season in its South Island and heats and finals in snowboard halfpipe and freestyle ski slopestyle.
