Ujah sprints to third in Stockholm Diamond League meet

Chijindu Ujah was the pick of British performers at the Diamond League meeting in Stockholm on Thursday night, finishing third in the men’s 100m with European bronze medallist Harry Aikines-Aryeetey coming home fifth.

Ujah became the youngest Brit to break the ten-second barrier over 100 metres at the FBK Games in Holland in June when he ran 9.96 seconds.

And while less than ideal conditions made for slower racing in Sweden on Thursday, the 20-year-old put in a strong performance to make the podium in a time of 10.10 seconds.

Victory went to Jamaican world bronze medallist Nesta Carter in 9.96secs with Trinidad and Tobago’s Keston Bledman second while Aikines-Aryeetey finished fifth in 10.20 seconds.

Elsewhere Laura Muir bounced back from her European and Commonwealth Games disappointment to finish sixth in the 1500m.

The 21-year-old Scot crossed the line in 4:04.71 minutes with European bronze medallist Laura Weightman 14th.
