Team KGF power to second World Cup gold in Minsk

British champions Team KGF ensured Elinor Barker was not the only Brit to leave the Tissot UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Minsk with medals this weekend.

Dan Bigham, Charlie Tanfield, Harry Tanfield and Jonathan Wale powered to a sensational team pursuit gold in Belarus, defeating Russian trade team Lokosphinx in the final.

They controlled the race throughout and won in 3:56.015 – more than two seconds clear of their Russian rivals – after they had beaten Switzerland in round one.

It was a second top spot for the team over the weekend after Charlie Tanfield’s individual pursuit heroics on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Olympic team pursuit champion Barker could not make it a hat-trick of medals from the weekend after managing sixth with sister Megan, who was not at full fitness after missing the points race on Friday, in the Madison.

Elinor Barker had notched silvers in the scratch and omnium earlier in the weekend, and will now turn her attention to the UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Apeldoorn, which begin on February 28.

And with three world titles and seven podium finishes already under her belt, you have to fancy the Welsh racer to add to that total.

Chris Latham was in with a chance of an omnium medal going into the points race finale in Minsk – he was sixth ahead of tackling his fourth discipline of the day.

However, he could not replicate the bronze medal he won at the World Championships and managed two points in the final race - good enough for 11th overall.

Earlier in the day, Lauren Bate and Georgia Hilleard were beaten by Germany’s Pauline Grabosch and Emma Hinze in the team sprint, while Bate missed out in round one and the repechage of the keirin.
