Swift claims scratch race glory

Ben Swift got over the disappointment of not being selected for the team pursuit squad by winning the scratch race at the Track Cycling World Championships in Melbourne.

Swift had travelled with the team pursuit squad but was left to watch as the team of Ed Clancy, Pete Kennaugh, Steven Burke and Geraint Thomas claimed gold in the first final of the evening.

However, he emerged victorious in the 15km (60 laps) non-Olympic scratch race, with Nolan Hoffman of South Africa second and Wim Stroetinga of Holland third.
