Will Saxton is not getting carried away with three medals from three World Cup Series events as he sets his sights on World Championship glory.
Saxton and Nikki Boniface bagged third in the Nacra 17 in the World Cup Series final in Marseille, with a strong performance in the final medal race lifting them from fifth to third overall.
Italians Ruggero Tita and Caterina Banti claimed gold, with compatriots Vittorio Bissaro and Maelle Frascari sealing silver.
And Saxton, who won the 2017 World Championship title with Katie Dabson, is remaining focused on taking each competition one challenge at a time as he seeks to repeat that glory.
“We went into the medal race in fifth overall but for most of the week we’d been second or third, so to come away with bronze feels a little like we pinched it and a little like we earned it,” Saxton said.
“The next big one for us is the Europeans, and then it’s on to the World Championships.”
Saxton and Boniface were not the only British interest in the lineup, with John Gimson and Anna Burnet finishing fifth overall and Chris Rashley and Laura Marimon seventh.
It was looking like Gimson and Burnet would be among the medals as a strong run had left them second overall before the start of the race.
However, they finished tenth overall and slipped out of the medal positions. But despite this, Burnet was determined to focus on the positives.
“We're really happy with the way we raced this regatta and the progress we're making,” Burnet said.
“Obviously it's a shame to miss the podium after such a solid week but the medal race was a tough one and it doesn't always go your way.”
