Jamie Murray bounced back from his disappointment in the men’s doubles to book his place in the US Open mixed doubles final with Bethanie Mattek-Sands. The 32-year-old Brit and his American partner defeated United States duo Christina McHale and Christian Harrison 6-4 2-6 [10-8] on Wednesday at Flushing Meadows. Defending champion Murray, who won the title with Martina Hingis last year, and Mattek-Sands won the deciding ‘set’ on points or 'tens' - the first duo to get to 10 and win by two clear points. The victory was a perfect response by the five-time Grand Slam doubles champion after he was knocked out of the men’s doubles along with partner Bruno Soares. Murray and Soares were beaten 7-5 6-4 in the quarter-finals by Tunisia’s Malek Jaziri and Moldova’s Radu Albot, who were playing only their second tournament together. “We didn’t play a good match,” Murray said after the men’s doubles. “We started a bit edgy and we had chances in the second set, the whole way through, but we didn’t take them and that was it. “They played some good stuff and we didn’t make enough first serves. We gave them a lot of looks on second serves and let them play a little bit too much but that’s it. “We had a great opportunity today and for the rest of the tournament. We got ourselves into the business end of the event but unfortunately we couldn’t take it further. But we won a lot of matches over the summer.” The 2016 champions and fourth seeds struggled from the start, with Murray’s Brazilian partner broken in the third game of the first set. Albot dropped his serve in the following game before Soares was broken again, which allowed Jaziri and Albot to serve out for the set. The second set saw Soares again drop serve in the third game and after failing to take break-point opportunities, the pairing eventually lost the second set 6-4. The mixed event at Flushing Meadows is now the Scot's final chance to win a Grand Slam in 2018. Sportsbeat 2018
