Muir excited to race on home soil

British middle distance runner Laura Muir says she is excited to be competing in front of a home crowd when she lines up for the mixed team international relay race in the Great Edinburgh XCountry at Hollyrood Park.

Muir, who raced in the 1500m final at the Commonwealth Games in July, will be joined by three-time British 800m champion Jemma Simpson for the race on Saturday.

She will run the opening leg in a 2x1km cross country relay race before handing the baton over to Ross Matheson and says she is excited by the race format.

“It’s an interesting prospect,” said Muir. “I don’t think I’ve ever raced over 1km before, so the distance itself will be quite unusual for me – plus the fact that it’s a cross country race and a relay as well.

“There’s quite a lot in the mix but I think it will be good fun.

“I love running in front of a home crowd and to have a Scottish vest on as well will be great. I just hope I run well for the team.”
