Melanie C, famed as a member of Britain’s greatest girl band, the Spice Girls, was named Artist Chair for ‘Party to 2012’, the official series of events taking place in association with Team GB in this special Olympic year. She has helped to bring together some of Britain’s biggest names to support Our Greatest Team and play their part in celebrating what will be a truly spectacular summer. She commented - “A home Olympics is a once in a lifetime event, and I’m proud to be part of Our Greatest Team and show my support for our brilliant athletes. They have all worked so hard to get to the Games so it’s only right that we all get behind them and make this summer unforgettable for everyone. Being a part of it is easy: sign up at the website, show your support with a Team GB scarf, leave a good luck message online - there are loads of ways to get involved and help Team GB on their way to glory this year!”
Reggie Yates is also hugely enthusiastic about the games and hopes that others will follow his lead by joining Our Greatest Team. “I’m so excited about the Games already - the atmosphere is going to be incredible and I’m pretty sure I’ll be cheering louder than anyone else, especially for the footie! I just hope that everyone will join myself and the other Great Britons by showing their support for Team GB. Knowing that they have the whole nation behind them will hopefully give them that extra boost they need to go for gold!”
Melanie and Reggie are photographed showing their support with the limited edition supporters’ scarf - available to buy from the Official Olympic clothing and homeware supplier, Next, in stores across the country or online at www.next.co.uk . As well as being a stylish fashion accessory it is the only garment that raises money directly for Team GB in their race to the Olympic Games.
In addition to this they are willing the nation to join Our Greatest Team and leave personal messages of support for the athletes online at http://www.teamgb.com/our-greatest-team
The scarf’s eye-catching design boasts the Team GB Lion printed across a background of 900 symbols which represent each of the 900 athletes of Team GB and Paralympics GB. It also features 60 hands symbolising the 60 million supporters of those athletes.
All profits from the sales of the scarf will go to the British Olympic Association and British Paralympic Association, helping our athletes to deliver outstanding performances in 2012 and beyond.
Melanie and Reggie will be joined by more celebrities next week in the “Show Your Support” campaign. For further information contact:
