Seonaid McIntosh admits it will take some time for her world title to sink in after she added individual gold to team bronze at the ISSF World Championships in Korea.
The 22-year-old held her nerve on the last shot in the Women’s 50m Rifle Prone to take gold ahead of Germany’s Isabella Straub and Pesk Demjen of Slovakia.
McIntosh hit a perfect 10.9 on her final shot to take the overall victory by 0.2 points, a result she had not been expecting at all.
She said: “It feels pretty amazing. I don’t think I’m really quite aware of what it is I’ve done yet though to be honest!
“I was really quite nervous for my last four shots.
“I had a nine for my 56th shot and took a break and then when I got back into position I was aware that I must be doing alright, but I thought that I was maybe vying for the bronze.
“I just tried to do what I’d done for the rest of the match and it turned out alright.”
McIntosh had won bronze on Tuesday in the women’s team event alongside sister Jennifer and Zoe Bruce.
And she believes that success helped calm the nerves in the individual event and played a big part in her taking gold.
She added: “I think winning a team medal helped me because I wasn’t so nervous plus I learned from my match to allow me to put in a better performance.
“There were some really good women in the field so it was a tough competition.
“I just tried to work on making the performance better than (Tuesday’s) and didn’t really think about the outcome.”
