Lee and Toulson dive to World Series bronze

Lois Toulson and Matty Lee dived their way to a bronze medal on Sunday in the mixed 10m synchro at the first round of the 2018 World Series in China.

The Great Britain pairing finished with 305.10 points in Beijing, behind North Korea’s Kim Mi Hwa and Il Myong Hyon who took silver with 330.30.

The gold went to home duo Lin Shan and Lian Junjie, who sealed victory with 349.56 points.

Huddersfield-born Toulson, 18, and 20-year-old Lee were second after the first round with 50.40, dropped to fourth after the third round but finished well with rounds of 75.84 and 72.96 elevating them to the podium.

The young pairing won European Championship gold in Kiev last June and added silver in the mixed 10m synchro event at the World Aquatics Championships in Budapest in July.

Tom Daley failed to qualify for Sunday’s 10m platform final, missing the opportunity to add to the two medal’s he’d accrued earlier in the week.

The 23-year-old had won bronze in the 10m synchro pairs and on Saturday took silver in the mixed 3m synchro alongside Grace Reid.

Lee also failed to make the final of the men’s 10m platform, likewise Toulson in the women’s equivalent.

The next leg of the FINA World Series will take place in Fuji, Japan from 15 to 17 March.
