Two-time Olympic medallist Jack Laugher picked up a silver medal in the Men's 3m Springboard at the third leg of the FINA Diving World Series in Montreal.
The 24-year-old finished second behind the victorious Xie Siyi, a double world champion, who amassed a final tally of 537.65 points to clinch the gold medal.
Laugher was 28.80 points behind the Chinese winner, having racked up a total of 508.85 from his six dives, while Yuan Cao took the final podium spot with 495.70 points.
Having finished just outside the medals with partner Dan Goodfellow in the Men’s 3m Synchro on the opening day, Laugher took the last qualification spot in his individual semi-final.
His total of 449.0 points was enough to reach the final, with Cao topping the standings in their heat with 497.55 ahead of Russia’s Evgenii Kuznetsov, who racked up 462.80 points.
Laugher then took his game up another level after making a slow start to the final, jumping up from sixth to third place with his second dive – which was awarded 87.50 points.
Strong dives in round four (95.55) and five (96.90) moved him up another place to the silver medal position, which was sealed with a solid final dive of 81.00 points.
His medal is the second of the event for Britain after Tom Daley and Matty Lee joined forces to also win silver on the opening day in the Men’s 10m Synchro.
Lee was back in action on the second day alongside Lois Toulson in the Mixed 10m Synchro but the pairing finished just outside the medals after finishing fourth with 307.14 points.
The gold medal was won by China’s Lian Junjie and Si Yajie with 342.21 points, while North Korean duo Hyon II Myong and Jo Jin Mi took the silver medal with a total of 320.10.
Russia’s Nikita Shleikher and Yulia Timoshinina claimed bronze (310.08) ahead of Lee and Toulson, who had been tied for third after their second jump before slipping to fourth.
Toulson also competed in the Women’s 10m Platform, where she just missed out on the medals again after finishing in fifth place – with China’s Lu Wei claiming gold.
The final day of action will see three-time Olympian Daley return to the pool, with the Rio 2016 bronze medallist competing in the individual and Mixed 3m Synchro with Grace Reid.
