Katy Marchant was delighted to secure gold in the Women's Keirin at the UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Glasgow by the slimmest of margins.
The 26-year-old claimed the win on the second day of action as she timed her lunge to the line to perfection to beat Germany’s Emma Hinze.
Marchant, who won bronze in the individual sprint at the Rio Olympics, battled hard to get through the semi-finals but believed she seized her opportunity.
“I’m so happy and I’m really pleased with how I rode the race as well,” she said.
“There were moments when I chose to be patient and then I picked my moment at the end, it was hard work, but it was worth fighting for.
“With so many amazing girls now, it’s winner through from the first round and top three from the semi-final.
“My semi-final wasn’t my finest race but I managed to squeeze through and you race the semis to get into the final. I’m really happy to come away with the win.”
Britain won another medal on the track as Ethan Hayter and Oliver Wood clinched silver in the men’s madison. The duo finished in second place on the podium after beating the Australians in the final sprint of the 200-lap race.
In the women’s omnium, Neah Evans finished in eighth place while Jason Kenny was knocked out of the men’s sprint in the quarter-finals by eventual winner Harrie Lavreysen.
