Join Team GB in celebrating Olympic Day

Tuesday 23rd June marks the annual event of Olympic Day in our sporting calendar and the British Olympic Association (BOA) is encouraging the nation to join us in celebrating via the theme of an old school sports day. Whether it’s a three-legged race, sack race or the old favourite of the egg and spoon, we want schools, fans and athletes alike to share their efforts with us – with the best winning prizes from Team GB. Simply take a photo or video of your sports day in action and submit it online on 23 June via any social media  channels using the hashtag #Olympicsportsday. Team GB kit prizes will be awarded to the most creative and excited participants as well as those that truly demonstrate the Olympic values of Friendship, Excellence and Respect.  Bill Sweeney, CEO of the British Olympic Association, said: “Olympic Day is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate everything that is great about Olympic sport and the Olympic Movement. Our challenge to you is to join in and celebrate via the theme of an old school sports day.

"We want to see your efforts with sack races, the egg and spoon - plus any other creative events you can come up with – and Team GB will hand out winning prizes to the best.

"A number of schools have already been getting involved, as have Team GB athletes currently competing at the European Games - a school sports day theme is a great way to see our athletes in action like you’ve never seen them before.” As an annual event held on 23rd June to commemorate the birth of the modern Olympic Games in 1894, Olympic Day is celebrated by millions of people in more than 160 countries. Its mission is to promote fitness, well-being, culture and education, while promoting the Olympic values and introducing the world to new sports. Across the day, Team GB will be sharing their own efforts from both London and Baku, where they are currently competing at the inaugural European Games, as well as those of the National Governing Bodies of Olympic Sport from around the UK. You can follow via our social media channels of Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Pinterest and Vine. So dust off those old skipping ropes and bean bags and join Team GB in celebrating Olympism with some retro sports day fun.
