The desire to reach Rio 2016 has been the driving force behind the return from injury of two-time triathlon world champion Helen Jenkins.
The 31-year-old has been out of action since July 2014 but is set for a return to competitive action in the World Series in Cape Town on Saturday.
Jenkins was 21st at the Olympic Games in Beijing but came close to the podium in London with a fifth-place finish.
It has been a hard slog since then though with Jenkins missing all of 2013 with a knee injury.
But she is ready to return to action and believes that this weekend in South Africa is the first step on the road to Rio.
"It's been a long time since I've been injury free. It's not been easy. There have been tears, emotion, there's been everything," she said.
"There have been times in the last six months where I've thought 'do I want to keep doing this?' It's so hard because you put everything into it but I feel like my body is holding me back.
"I have an overwhelming desire though to go to another Olympics and I believe that if I can train consistently and keep my body injury-free then I can be one of the medallists in Rio.That belief keeps me going."
While a strong showing in Cape Town would be a dream start to Jenkins, she says she is not putting any pressure on the performance.
'I've got a mixture of excitement and nerves ahead of my return," Jenkins added.
"I haven't really got any expectations but my swimming and bike training has been going really well in recent months.
"I feel I'm a better athlete in these two disciplines than I was last year, but I haven't been able to do as much running as I would have liked."
Cape Town will also see the return to action of Olympic champion Alistair Brownlee who joins the ranks alongside brother Jonathan who has been in fine form so far this season.
