Great Britain pair secure one-two at Canoe Slalom World Cup

Great Britain secured a one-two as Kimberley Woods took gold and  Mallory Franklin snatched silver at the women’s C1 event at the 2017 Canoe Slalom World Cup 1 in Prague.

On what was a fine day for Great Britain, Woods, finished in a time of one minute 51.15 seconds, beating compatriot Franklin, 22, by 3.98 seconds.

Woods blitzed the rest of the field, finishing 6.41 seconds ahead of third place Monika Jancova and more the 11 seconds clear of fourth placed Tereza Fiserova.

It’s been a fine few years for the 21-year-old after she won the C1 European Championship for the second successive time. She was also part of the C1 Women's Team who retained their European title.

In 2016 Woods became U23 European Champion in C1 and silver medallist in K1.

Following her victory, Woods wrote on social media: “Very happy with today’s racing, nice to get a clean run in the final.

“Well done to Mallory Franklin and Monika [Jancova] – onto kayak prep now.”

The women’s C1 event is set to make its Olympic debut in three years time at Tokyo.

Elsewhere Great Britain’s Rio 2016 gold medallist Joe Clark finished sixth in the Kayak K1 with a time of 97.31 seconds.
