Grabarz pipped in New York

British Olympic hopeful Robbie Grabarz had to settle for second place in the high jump at Saturday night's Diamond League meeting in New York.

The 24-year-old, who recorded the highest outdoor jump of the year in Rome in May, posted a best height of 2.36 metres along with home favourite Jesse Williams.

However, Grabarz was pipped to victory by the American on countback.

Marilyn Okoro clocked a time of one minute 59.37 seconds to finish third in the women's 800m, behind Ethiopia's Fantu Magiso and Molly Beckwith of the United States.

Andrew Osagie put in an impressive performance to cross the line third in the men's 800m, with a personal best of 1:44.61.

Goldie Sayers was just outside the medals in the javelin with her throw of 59.23m, while Lawrence Okoye came fifth in the discus with a distance of 63.87m.

Away from the British contenders, former world champion Tyson Gay competed for the first time in a year to clock 10.00secs in the 100m 'B' race.

The American, who holds the second fastest time in history over the distance, has been sidelined with a hip injury.
