Taekwondo star Bianca Walkden started the year on a high note as she claimed gold in the President's Cup in Sweden.
It was the triple world champion’s first competitive appearance in 2020 and in the semi-final, Walkden convincingly beat France’s Solene Avoulette 13-2.
Turkey’s Nafia Kus was the Olympic bronze medallist’s opponent in the +73kg final but Walkden came through winning 12-10 and was pleased to put down a marker.
“It is nice to start the year off on top of the podium. It is time to keep pushing through the main goal of 2020,” Walkden said.
Double Olympic champion Jade Jones was also in competition in Helsingborg but after beating Poland’s Patrycja Adamkiewicz 11-9, the Welsh star had to pull out of the -57kg final.
Elsewhere Christian McNeish secured bronze in the -68kg category.
