In-form Scott heads British team at Finn Europeans

Giles Scott will look to maintain his recent unbeaten run when the Finn European Championship gets underway in La Rochelle, France on Monday.

The 26-year-old has yet to lose since his full-time return to the class in October last year, and has finished on the top step of the Finn class podium in eight of the ten events he’s contested since June 2011.

But Scott, who won the European and World titles in 2011, will not have things all his own way with plenty of competition in the 95-strong fleet, including from his own British Sailing teammates.

Ed Wright, European champion in 2006, will be looking to improve on his runner-up finish last year, while Andrew Mills, who won bronze at the 2011 Europeans, will also be present as well as Mark Andrews, winner of three EUROSAF regattas last season.

The six-day regatta in France also combines the Finn Junior European Championship and there will be further British representation with Peter McCoy aiming to defend his 2013 crown with James Hadden and Ben Cornish also competing.
