EYOWF Preview Day 5

Four of the six sports represented by Team GB at the EYOWF are in action on day five of the festival.

After a superb sixth place from Charlie Raposo (London) earlier this week the GB boy’s alpine quartet are eager to get back out on the slopes for the last alpine event of the EYOWF competition, the boys slalom.

GB’s trio of biathletes are also back in action and eager to impress after a disappointing first showing in the 12.5km. Sam Cairns (Kinguisse), Lachlan Cowie (Kinguisse) and Robert Sircus (Inverness) all compete in the 7.5km sprint competition.

Looking ahead to the last event of the biathlon competition Team Leader Rex Sircus said:

“Tomorrow is a wonderful opportunity for the boys they know the course, their preparation has gone well, and they produced some fantastic shooting. All three boys are going into the sprint with realistic expectations of what they can achieve. Hopefully they will perform to the best of their ability and take fond memories of a wonderful week in Braşov with Team GB.”

Sixteen year old figure skater Amani Fancy is also back in action when she returns to the Ice Rink in Poiana Braşov for her free programme. Fancy who described her experience in Braşov as ‘the experience of a lifetime’ is looking forward to getting back onto the ice and putting behind her the errors of the short programme.

“I am very excited for tomorrow’s free programme and just hope I can make it through without any errors,” she said. “To say I am happy to be here in Braşov is an understatement, it is the experience of a lifetime. I am so excited to be here and my teammates are fantastic.”

The final sport in action for Team GB on the fifth day of competition is cross country skiing where Sarah Hale and James Clugnet both compete in their preferred event, the sprint competition.

Hale impressed in this event last year at the Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck where she skied a personal best of 16th place in the 1.5km sprint competition.

“The sprint is my best event and the one that I have been targeting,” said Hale. “So I am hoping that I can show what I can do when that race begins. First I need to make sure I get through the qualifiers. Then it is a case of just taking it race by race and seeing how I go, hopefully it will be very good but we will have to wait and see.”
