Ennis-Hill ruled out of British Championships

Olympic champion Jessica Ennis-Hill will be absent from this weekend's Sainsbury's British Championships in Birmingham.

The 27-year old has yet to compete this season, throwing major doubt on whether she will be fit to attempt to regain her world heptathlon title in Moscow next month.

But coach Toni Minichiello remains optimistic.

A statement released by British Athletics said: "She is following a very comprehensive rehabilitation programme, working with the British Athletics medical team and her physiotherapist Alison Rose."

Ennis-Hill - who has already secured the qualifying standard - is struggling with an Achilles tendon problem but tweeted that while 'frustrated' she had not given up hope of making the plane to Russia.

Meanwhile, world junior champion and London 2012 Olympian Adam Gemili reached the final of the 100m at the European Under-23 Championships in Finland, where he'll be joined by team-mates Deji Tobais and Samuel Osewa.

Jodie Williams and Rachel Johncock also qualified for the women's 100m final in Tampere.
