Beijing Olympian Becky Downie produced a season’s best score on the bars to put herself in the running for a medal at the European Championships in Moscow.
Downie, who has been hampered by injury recently, had to wait until near the end of Thursday’s action to get her assault underway.
And all that waiting around clearly gave the 21-year-old itchy feet as she scored a superb 14.733 on the bars to place second heading into Saturday’s final.
“I’m really happy that I got through it - it’s my best score this year,” said Downie.
“There was always a bit of added pressure having been out of the team for so long but I’ve had amazing support and always had self-confidence and I proved it.
“I’m really excited about the final; I’ve been waiting a long time to go for a medal in a major outside of Britain so let’s hope for the best.”
Joining Downie in the bars final will be Ruby Harrold, who produced also went on to book spots in the beam and all-around showdowns too.
And with a hat-trick secured Harrold couldn’t believe her luck.
“I’m very pleased with my competition; beam In particular where I put up a personal best,” Harrold said.
“My main focus here was on bars and then I hoped to go clean on the rest, I have an unusual bars combination that has taken time to perfect but it’s been worth all the training.
“It’s amazing to make the all-around final and of course the bars which was my target.”
Charlie Fellows joins Harrold in the all-around final but 15-year-old Gabby Jupp’s senior major championship debut ended prematurely as she exited the competition with an injury during the beam.
