Daley and Denny an agonising fourth at Europeans in Berlin

Commonwealth silver medallists Tom Daley and James Denny narrowly missed out on adding a second major international podium finish to their new partnership at the European Championships.

Daley and Denny only came together on the eve of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow but hit it off to claim silver in diving’s 10m synchro event with an overall score of 399.36 for their sixes.

They quickly moved on to the European Championships in Berlin but when it was their moment to take to the boards they just failed to collect another medal despite scoring higher overall.

Olympic bronze medallist Daley and Denny finished with a total of 403.74 to finish fourth – dropping marks on their front four-and-a-half somersaults to fall down the leaderboard.

They had finished second in the preliminary round with a score of 415.05 while home favourites Patrick Hausding and Sascha Klein remained in front for a popular gold with a total of 461.46.

Vadim Kaptur and Yauheni Karaliou of Belarus claimed silver with 421.80 while Ukraine’s Oleksandr Bondar and Maksym Dolgov were enough ahead of Daley and Denny with 415.17.

Earlier in the session Hannah Starling improved her preliminary position by two places to finish eighth in the 1m springboard final with an overall total of 253.10.
