Cooke and Weale advance to final

Jamie Cooke and Sam Weale made it a perfect two days of qualification for British athletes at the modern pentathlon World Cup in Rostov, Russia.

After Heather Fell, Katy Livingston, Samantha Murray and Katy Burke all made the women's final on Thursday, Cooke and Weale followed suit by coming through the first men's semi-final.

Junior world champion Cooke has had a difficult season and again struggled in the fencing but pulled himself back into contention with his customary speedy swim and also impressed in the final event, the combined run and shoot.

The 21-year-old crossed the line in 11th, well inside the qualification target of top 18, while Weale had a poor second shoot but recovered to finish 16th.
