Conway back in world top eight with silver in Turkey

Silver at the Samsun Grand Prix in Turkey has propelled British judoka Sally Conway back into the world’s top eight.

Conway, who fought for Britain at the London 2012 Olympics, secured her second -70kg silver of the season.

A gold medallist at last year’s Samsun Grand Prix, Conway just failed to repeat the trick against German Laura Vargas Koch.

The world silver medallist landed a late yuko for victory after Conway had recorded three wins to battle for gold.

But Conway wasn’t overly complaining as she returns home from Turkey with a place back in the top eight of the world.

"I felt quite relaxed all day and happy with my performance even though I lost the final," said Conway.

"There are some positives from the day which I will take forward to the European Championships.”
