Milos Raonic had a message for Andy Murray ahead of their fourth-round clash at the US Open - "It's not about you, it's about me".
Raonic may not yet be a household name but he is heading quickly towards the top 10 and is the sport's brightest new star. The Canadian certainly does not lack confidence and, asked if he was ready to beat a top-four player at a grand slam, said without hesitation: "Yes."
"I wouldn't feel comfortable being here if I wasn't. I've done my work," he added.
Raonic made his grand slam breakthrough at the Australian Open in 2011, reaching the fourth round as a qualifier, and is back at that stage for the first time since then.
Hip surgery stalled his progress last summer but he has begun to make big strides again this season, propelled by a huge serve and groundstrokes to match.
Raonic added: "In the end my job is to go out there and make my opponents adjust to me. I feel like I have the ability to be more dangerous than most players when I have the ball on my racquet, especially out of my hand on a serve.
"That just puts a lot of pressure on my opponents if I'm serving well. So it's one thing I try to take advantage of as much as I can, that a lot of matches can depend on me. If I'm serving well, I'm hitting my spots, it's about making him feel as uncomfortable as possible."
The pair have met once before, on clay in Barcelona earlier this year, and it was Raonic who came out on top.
He said: "The serve gave me a lot of insight into what he likes to do. Before that you sort of have an understanding but, especially the top four guys, you give them big respect. This, to my eyes, humanises them quite a bit. If I do the things right, I know the opportunities will be there."
Raonic and Murray play the last match of the night session, with Serena Williams and Roger Federer both on Arthur Ashe in the day.
