Olympic silver medallist Jazz Carlin will take part in her first major open water event this summer after being selected for the Europeans marathon squad.
Carlin, who picked up the silver medal in both the 400m and 800m freestyle in Rio two years ago, leads an eight-strong team to the European Championships in Glasgow, with the marathon swimming itself taking place in Loch Lomond.
The 27-year-old is joined by Jack Burnell, a silver medallist at the last Europeans two years ago, who is in good form having picked up medals in the 10km in Seychelles and Portugal this season.
Team leader Bernie Dietzig is delighted to see Carlin taking part in the competition and believes her selection is reward for her hard work.
He said: “The swimmers we have been able to select for this squad will be really exciting to watch.
“We have the highly experienced open water swimmers with proven experience at performing when it matters, right through to young talent.
“Jazz has worked very hard to transition from the pool to the open water so it will be a great opportunity for her to take on this new challenge.”
The eight-strong team will be taking to the open water in the largest inland stretch of water in Great Britain between August 8 and 12.
