Britain close on further medals

Britain are closing in on more medals on the second day of competition in the World Indoor Championships in Istanbul.

American-born Tiffany Porter - a controversial choice as team captain this weekend - advanced to this evening's final of the 60 metres hurdles after finishing second in her semi-final.

And defending champion Dwain Chambers also finished second in his semi-final of the 60m to qualify automatically for tonight's final as the fourth fastest overall.

But the first medal looked like coming from the women's triple jump where veteran Yamile Aldama - like Porter another so-called "Plastic Brit" after previously competing for Cuba and Sudan - produced a brilliant jump of 14.82m in the second round to open up a commanding lead.

Britain won four medals two years ago in Doha and so far have one silver won by Jessica Ennis in yesterday's pentathlon.
