Gordon Benson got Great Britain's medal total up and running winning men’s triathlon gold to claim Team GB's first-ever European Games medal.
With the help of team-mates Thomas Bishop and Colin Graves during the swimming and cycling elements of the race, Benson seized the advatage when part of a five-man breakaway on the run, striking for home in the final five kilometres.
And he didn’t let up, going on to become the first ever male triathlon European Games champion in 1:48.31 hours, with Portugal’s Joao Silva 11 seconds behind in second and home favourite Rostyslav Pevtsov completing the podium for Azerbaijan.
