Baku 2015: Hunt victorious in mini Battle of Britain

Nicky Hunt admitted her progression to the 1/16 elimination round of the women’s archery was bittersweet after coming out on top in her Battle of Britain clash at the European Games.

Team GB duo Hunt and Naomi Folkard knew only one of them would live to fight another day after Friday as they faced off against each other in their first elimination match.

And it proved to be Hunt who would be victorious as she went on to win 6-0 against her teammate.

But despite going on to book a next-round clash with Russian Natalia Erdynieva, Hunt couldn’t help but feel bad teammate Folkard.

“It's obviously good to win but it sucks to be playing against a teammate,” she said. “The only positive of that was that one of us was going to get through to the next round.

“It sucks but I have to look at my own performance, I've had a really good week and am happy with everything that I did and I stuck with that.

“It's not taekwondo and we are not trying to kick each other in the head, tactics don't really come into play, we are just standing in front of a target so you have to keep your own brain and shoot your own target.”

Earlier in the day, Amy Oliver exited the competition in the first elimination round as she lost 6-0 to Russian Alexandra Longova

“I feel a bit gutted but I felt like I tried my best and my preparation was as good as it could be,” Oliver said. “I was shaking a lot but that's natural and I know I have things to work on.

“I'm working through some stuff and it's definitely getting better but I think I haven't been in that environment since London.”
