Awesome Atkin secures Big Air bronze

Izzy Atkin won her first World Cup Big Air medal with a superb bronze in Atlanta.

The 21-year-old – who became Team GB's first skiing medallist in PyeongChang – finished with an overall score of 164.50 following a brilliant second jump.

The medal is Atkin’s first at World Cup level since March when she scored bronze at the World Championships.

She said: “It feels amazing. I have never skied in front of this big a crowd so to hear them is amazing. It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

Big Air will become an Olympic sport for the first time at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.

Switzerland’s Mathilde Gremaud took gold by scoring 180.75, ahead of compatriot Giulia Tanno – who tops the overall World Cup standings.

Earlier this month, Atkin’s younger sister, 16-year-old Zoe, secured her first World Cup halfpipe title in Copper Mountain. Sportsbeat 2019
