Mo Farah demonstrated his insatiable will to win once again to come through and clinch his first victory at the 10km Great Manchester Run.

Competing in the event for the first time since 2007, Farah turned on the afterburners approaching the line to sprint past Ugandan Moses Kipsiro and win in 28 minutes 27 seconds.

Third went to Kenya’s Abel Kirui, 25 seconds behind Farah.

A four-time Olympic champion on the track, Farah is now concentrating on matters on the road, and last month broke the British record at the London Marathon.

And the 35-year-old conceded he was still feeling the effects of that race – his first over the distance since switching to road racing.

“The conditions were perfect today, it was a nice run for me. Having competed in the marathon, it was a matter of getting back into training,” he told BBC Sport.

“I've got great speed and I know that at the end of the races I can use it if the guys haven't hurt me enough, so today was a matter of hanging in there.

“I was pretty tired. Having competed in the marathon not so long ago, today was hard work.”
