Boxer Peter McGrail was born in Liverpool and spent his early years training at the Everton Red Triangle Boxing Club.
As an 18-year-old, he won a bronze medal at the AIBA Youth World Championships in Sofia, which booked his place at the Youth Olympic Games later in 2014.
He boxed in the 56kg weight category at the Youth Olympics in Nanjing, winning another bronze and by 2015 he was a six-time national champion.
McGrail won silver at the U22 European Championships in March 2017, before going one better at the senior event to become the first boxer from Liverpool to be crowned European champion.
He backed up his European triumph on the world stage a year later with a bronze medal in Hamburg and won gold in the men’s bantam (56kg) category on his Commonwealth Games debut in 2018.
