Ben Proud grew up in Damansara , Kuala Lumpur and attended the Alice Smith School until year 12, when he left to pursue his swimming career further.

Basing himself in Plymouth, Ben burst onto the scene in 2013 with a couple of stand-out performances on the national stage, including breaking Mark Foster’s ten-year-old British 50m butterfly record en route to his first British title.
The following year he began accumulating medals on the international stage, winning 50m butterfly and 50m freestyle gold and 4x100m freestyle bronze at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and 50m butterfly bronze and 4x100m medley gold at the European Championships in Berlin.
