Graves became the youngest athlete ever to win an Ironman competition when he took the Ironman UK title in the 2009, at the age of 20, also winning the Ironman 70.3 UK title in the same year. On average he trains 35 hours a week over the course of 21 sessions. 

2009 was also the year that he made his senior British debut when he competed at the European Olympic Distance Championships in Holten, Holland.

 He will be competing for Great Britain at the inaugural European Games at Baku 2015.
