BIOGRAPHY

Sprinter Mark Cavendish shot to fame with four stage wins in the 2008 Tour de France, and in 2011 became the first ever British rider to win the green jersey.

Cavendish, who is from the Isle of Man, made his Olympic debut on the track at Beijing 2008 and then competed on the road at London 2012.

The cyclist’s first Olympic medal came in Rio four years later, where he claimed silver in the omnium .

Widely held as the fastest man on two wheels, he was the 2011 World Road Race Champion and was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours the same year, before winning gold on the track at the 2016 World Championships.
