A product of West Ham’s academy, James Tomkins can play in defence or in midfield and played a key role in the Hammers’ Championship play-off victory in 2012 – after which James was named in the PFA Championship Team of the Year.

Having represented England at all levels up to the under-21 team, James was selected for the first-ever Great Britain football squad for the 2012 Olympics.

He played twice in London; the first half in a 2–0 defeat to Brazil in a warm-up game and in a 3–1 victory against the UAE.
