Born in Stockport, Helen Casey is a qualified doctor who won GB's first Olympic Class World Championship medal for lightweight women in 2002.

Helen started rowing in 1995 in her final year at St Catherine's College Cambridge and continued rowing after transferring to Oxford University Medical School. There she rowed for the University in 1996–1998 as well as for Osler House.

Helen qualified as a doctor in 1998 and rowed in the women's lightweight double sculls at the 2004 and 2008 Summer Olympics.
