Royal Artillery officer Heather Stanning OBE joined Helen Glover in the women’s pair in 2010 and they immediately went from strength to strength.
Stanning and Glover won gold at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, consequently receiving an MBE in the 2013 New Year Honours List.
Stanning completed her set of international titles in 2015 when she won gold at the European Championships, before following that up with a second gold - and fourth World Championship medal in total - in Aiguebelette.
Having won their second European title in 2016, the duo then became the first British female athletes to defend an Olympic rowing title later that year, going unbeaten for four years in the run-up to Rio 2016 before securing gold on the Lagoa.
In November that year, Stanning announced her retirement from rowing to return to army service.
