BIOGRAPHY

Reading-born Chris Mears attended diving classes from a young age and demonstrated his talent for the event by winning 1 metre and platform gold at the British Elite Junior Championships in 2008.

Mears teamed up with Nick Robinson-Baker to finish fifth in the 3m synchro at London 2012 while also finishing ninth in the 3m springboard.

A fruitful 2014 saw him combine with Jack Laugher to claim three World Series medals and then Commonwealth Games gold in the 3m synchro before winning bronze at the 2015 World Championships in the same event.

Mears and Laugher then made history at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games by becoming Britain's first ever diving Olympic champions after a stunning performance in the 3m sycnhro final. Team GB's divers went on to record their best ever Games with three medals collected in Rio.
