Raised on the Channel Island of Sark and educated at Elizabeth College on Guernsey, Carl Hester first competed in equestrian after taking up a job at the Fortune Centre in Hampshire before he joined Dr Wilfried Bechtolsheimer’s yard as a rider.

Carl now runs his own yard at Oaklebrook Mill near Newent, Gloucestershire and was named as the BOA Olympic Athlete of the Year for equestrian in 2011 but missed out on Beijing 2008 after injuries to two of his horses.

At the 2012 Olympics in London, Carl won gold in team dressage with partners Laura Bechtolsheimer and Charlotte Dujardin and was chosen to again represent Team GB at Rio 2016.
