Andrew Butchart earned selection for his maiden Olympic Games in Rio, after a fine first six months of 2016.
He set a new Scottish 5,000m record in May 2016, clocking 3:13.30 minutes to break Nat Muir’s near 36-year-old record by more than four seconds.
Butchart then set a new Scottish 3,000m record in June 2016, before winning the 2016 British 5,000m title.
In Rio, Butchart ran a new personal 13:08.61 to finish sixth in the 5000m final as Mo Farah won gold for Team GB, before placing eighth at the following year’s World Championships in London.
