BIOGRAPHY

Wolverhampton’s Alison Young started sailing at the age of eight, quickly progressing through the classes at junior level before winning bronze at the 2005 ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships in Korea.

Having earned a First Class Honours degree in Civil Engineering from Southampton University, she then fully focused on sailing and impressed with a 12th-place finish at the 2010 ISAF Sailing World Championships.

Young then finished fifth in the laser radial class at London 2012, her first Olympic Games, before being crowned laser radial world champion in April 2016, becoming the first British woman to do so in a solo Olympic dinghy class.

She then went on to finish eighth in the class at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and, in October 2019, was selected for her third consecutive Olympics when chosen to represent Team GB at Tokyo 2020.
